How to get clear on your purpose

When you feel like you’re getting nowhere or have lost direction, it helps to spend some time working out your WHY.

Getting clear on your purpose requires some introspection and self-reflection. Here are some steps that may help you:

Reflect on your values:

Start by identifying what’s most important to you. Ask yourself questions like “what do I value the most?”, “what do I stand for?”, “what motivates me?”, “what gives me meaning and fulfilment?”

Identify your strengths:

Think about your unique talents, skills, and abilities. Ask yourself questions like “what am I good at?”, “what comes naturally to me?”, “what do others appreciate about me?”

Consider your passions:

Think about the things you love doing and that bring you joy. Ask yourself questions like “what do I enjoy doing in my free time?”, “what topics do I love learning about?”, “what causes or issues am I passionate about?”

Determine what impact you want to have:

Ask yourself what kind of impact you want to make on the world. Do you want to help people in need, make a positive difference in your community, or work towards a larger social or environmental goal?

Write it down: Once you have reflected on these questions, write down your purpose statement. It should be a clear and concise statement that summarizes your values, strengths, passions, and desired impact.

Your purpose can change over time, and it’s okay to revise your purpose statement as you grow and evolve. The important thing is to keep reflecting on your purpose and taking actions that align with it.
