If this is your milestone year – 30, 40, 50, 60 – first of all, congratulations. You’ve made it this far with all your hard-won wisdom, your battle scars, and your spark still shining. That’s no small thing.
When I hit a milestone birthday, I realised it’s less about the number and more about the moment. It’s a chance to check in: Am I living in alignment with who I am now? Am I still carrying old stories that no longer fit?
If you’re feeling a little wobbly about your big day, here are a few ways to make it truly yours:
1. Choose joy over obligation.
You don’t have to have the giant party if that’s not your vibe. Equally, you don’t have to “keep it low key” just because someone else says so. This is your celebration – own it.
2. Honour your journey.
Take some time to look back at the highs and lows. Every twist and heartbreak taught you something. Maybe write your younger self a thank-you letter for getting you this far.
3. Plant a flag for the future.
What do you want next? This is your chance to set a bold intention. It could be a creative leap, a wild adventure, or simply more time for the things that light you up.
A milestone birthday is a permission slip to celebrate, release, and dream bigger. My advice? Take it. And don’t just blow out the candles – make a wish you actually plan to chase.
When I turned 40 I had a photo shoot – here’s how I looked then…
