What I learnt from a month in Berlin

I’ve just come back from spending a month in Berlin, and it’s shifted something in me.
We gave ourselves the time to really be there, not rushing through a checklist, but moving between galleries, forests, independent bookshops and small cafés that felt like much more than places to grab a coffee. They were spaces where people gathered, stayed, talked, created and connected.
What stood out was how many of these places are able to exist because of rent control. Small venues for music and experimental artists, independent cafés, bookshops that double as community spaces. There’s room for ideas to take shape without immediate pressure to turn a profit.
It made me think a lot about community, and what becomes possible when people have the space to explore, connect and build something over time.
I took a leaf out of Steve Stark’s book and gave myself a proper break from the day-to-day (Steve takes August off each year) .That space has given me a lot of clarity about how I want to work over the next six months and where I can have the most impact.
The reality is most of the women I work with don’t have the luxury of taking a month out to think things through. They’re in the middle of big decisions and need clarity quickly. That might be deciding whether to stay in a job or move into freelancing, or working out what the next step actually looks like.
That’s exactly why I offer 3 Hour Blast Sessions.
They’re designed for when you’re stuck and need to move forward. In three hours we get to the heart of what’s going on, make a clear decision, and map out practical next steps so you can take action straight away.
If you’re in that place right now, you don’t need a month away. You just need focused time to think.
