It’s Halloween! In the UK, we don’t go as crazy as the USA does. We hold out for burning things down on 5 Nov. Don’t ask me.
Growing up, I always thought witches were cool. They always had tools, agency and goals. They were usually outside of society but an incredibly important part of the community. They were usually on a mission, super clever and creative.
Even Meg is a strong independent woman, living her best life with her cool pets, Mog and Owl.
Who wouldn’t love a whole series of books about a witch academy where the main character was a bit shit?
Sabrina gets stuff done with her friends at school. Samantha navigates masking and being the perfect housewife while trying to please her trad witch mum.
The Evil Queen and even Carrie (not technically a witch, but think about it), could probably have channelled their power better into more positive and productive ways. But hey, they were pissed off.

And shout out to all the real life women throughout history in all cultures, who were vilified and persecuted for their beliefs and practices.
